New series plays "homage" to Kirby

It took just one look at the cover in Previews for this comic to be added to my comic shop "pull list" with its obvious homage to Jack Kirby in artistic influence. And influenced by his later work it has turned out to be.

The double page spread on pages two and three introduce the reader to the troubled main character Plenilunio who appears to be in some kind of dreamlike purgatory. The imagery of monsters haunting his imagination could have been drawn from much of Kirby's great imagination.

The four issue mini-series from Image comics is both dark, humorous and tragic.

The solicitation reads:

Sad demon Plenilunio rules a haunted castle with his sleepwalking lover Lidia, and unwisely bargains with the evil Empyre to wake her. He’s in a race for the mystic Soul Key with teen-from-Hades Hotspot and the ruthless Hellena—agents of the Empyre with secret agendas. A four-part thrill ride to hell starts here.

Not a title that will probably appeal to the casual reader, but for the hardcore fan a bit of fun.

And I'll be staying for the rest of the ride....
