A "Look-in" to the Seventies: 1975




In this year: Charlie Chaplin is Knighted by the Queen, the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail is released and the National Railway Museum opens in York. The biggest selling single of the year was The Bay City Rollers Bye Bye Baby and  Queen released Bohemian Rhapsody.

Trouble and strife continued as Ross McWhirter of the Guinness Book of Records (and right-wing activist) was assassinated, the IRA bombed Green Park Station and Maggie Thatcher takes over the Conservative Party.

Look-in continued to entertain the younger generation and today's choice is the 1975 Television Annual which features lots of new and exiting science fiction including Gerry Anderson's Space 1999, The Six Million Dollar Man and the Planet of the Apes TV series.



Comic strips included Bless This House, The Tomorrow People and Doctor On The Go. Benny Hill also had his own adventures in comic form.


Pop music fared well with "pin-ups" of Pilot, David Essex Steve Harley and Alvin Stardust.



There was also a feature on music films featuring the stars of the day: Elton John, Slade and many others including one never to mentioned in polite company ever again.
