2000AD Prog 2214 (out Wednesday)

The latest issue of 2000AD arrived on doormats for subscribers yesterday and continues the adventures of Judge Dredd and his friends across what has been voted Britain's favourite comic. In second place was the small press independent comic The 77 another favourite of this blog with Sentinel coming third.

I would guess that Shift arrived far too late in the year to pick up enough votes to get higher than 5th place but it's good to see the professionals slug it out with the amateurs as the British comics industry goes through a small but healthy revival!

Rebellion are to be congratulated with their publishing programme which saw so many "Specials" and collections printed last year. They've already announced their Treasury of British Comics collections for the year ahead and I've already pre-ordered a couple. We await their decisions over Specials as the pandemic has closed down so many outlets.

The latest issue of 2000AD continues Judge Dredd in the fully painted Desperadlands part two. Hershey continues her long walk in the story by Rob Williams (w) and Simon Fraser (a) and Britain's (or Ireland's) favourite Barbarian Slaine returns with a vengeance in part three of Dragontamer by PatMills with marvellous art from Leonardo Manco.

Durham Red remains in trouble as her prison is attacked in Served Cold part three byAlec Worley and art from Ben Wisher. Only the dreadful Proteus Rex mars this great comic. Sorry guys I am really not a fan. Still four out of five strips still make this comic a great read.

The previous issue of 2000AD remains on sale (they sell it in Sainsbury's now I noticed) so either grab a copy from whatever outlet you can or direct from the publishers. I highly recommend a subscription. Even in Fulham this is the most reliable way of making sure a copy arrives every week.
