Appearing in Fantastic a short-lived title from the "Power Comics" range back in the sixties Johnny Future was the sole original strip in what was a publication designed to reprint adventures of Marvel Comics superheroes. This was an odd publication with an unusual size and higher price than most comics at the time which never found it's way in the very competitive UK comics market.
For those of us who didn't get to read the original strip in it's totality (there was so much competition for our pocket money) this is an opportunity to enjoy the full adventures of Johnny Future. The volume takes us from the discovery of the "missing link" (so obviously inspired by Marvel's Hulk) to the creatures reconstruction through radioactive sabotage into the man of the future.
Almost each week the reader seemed to discover something new as Johnny Future explored his powers eventually even learning to fly. He had a great gallery of villains ranging from spies to mind-controlling super-villains and our own version of the Puppet Master from the Fantastic Four. There were aliens, mad scientists, robots and monsters.

Problem for our Johnny is that he often ended up under the control of some fiend or another swinging from hero to villain in the space of a day. The Daily Bugle would have had an orgasm charting these stories!
The strip written by Alf Wallace and drawn by Luis Bermejo had so much potential. The recent revival in Rebellions SMASH! Special gives hope that there will be more to come updated for 21st century.

However whilst we wait there is every reason to buy this collection as the stories are pure nostalgia and a joy to read. Even if you were to young to read this the first time round The Complete Johnny Future is a worthy addition to your comic library!
