Green Lantern - Intergalactic Lawman (DC/Hardback)

Grant Morrison (w) Liam Sharpe (a)

Although I'd rank Superman as my favourite all-time superhero the character I'd choose to be would be the Green Lantern or at least a member of the GL Corps, the intergalactic police force set up by the Guardians of the Universe to implement law and order.

That childhood wish aside this latest series from the mind of Grant Morrison with terrific art (if a little too dark in places) pushes the boat out with not just the different fairly humanoid species in the DC Universe but also those that exist as viruses or different wavelengths. All manner of sentient life from the microscopic to planet sized beings, those that live in the dark and those made of total light all appear in this story.

If there is one thing Grant Morrison is good at it's creating a alien environment for his tales to take place in and everything from the "normal" on Earth to vast reaches of outer-space is given new meaning as we see members of the Corps take action against thieves on the  homework of the Lords of Luck (Legion readers will be familiar) to the slavers who kidnap the planet Earth.

We see familiar faces such as the Dominators and Darkseid's minions make guest appearances though not central to the action though the Shepherd is a problem when he tempts mankind with the promise of super-powers. But Hal Jordan our flawed hero wo has died at least twice become a life destroying villain and the hand of God's vengeance as The Spectre is alive and well and leading the fightback.

Then there is the will of Mu and his Blackstars. A being who offers total peace or the ultimate destruction. They've already occupied Rann and Jordan's operating undercover on the orders of the Guardians by stories end. The murder of Adam Strange is a shock and there's a bomb to be diffused.

This is the first part of an epic adventure of the Green Lantern which will be collected across four volumes I believe and this is the first which must be read to be believed. The second is already on my shelf awaiting reading. The others will be added as I am able. This is a story not to be missed

Rating 5 Stars (Highly Recommended)
