Previews Picks March 2020!
Time for a quick look at what's on offer in the latest issue of Previews and what grabs my interest (and budgetary constraints!) in the comic shops catalogue in arch.
First off Marvel is mostly disregarded because even one of the three regular titles i collect is a crossover for their Empyre story in which I have no interest and looking at the tie ins wonder exactly how damaging such events are to the remaining market for comics. Other than Conan the Barbarian and Spider-Woman that's it for me.
DC is up next. They have their own crossover with a number of tie in and crossover issue but since this is restricted in the main to the Batman range of comics which I no longer collect thats not a problem. Then there's Death Metal which I also lost interest in a while back so where do we start?
There's Generation One a prestige format one shot and the first of a series that will highlight the future of DC. Worth a try. As is the Green Lantern 80th Anniversary 100 page Super Spectacular with a collection of first appearances from Alan Scott onwards. Sounds good to me!
Adam Strange continues his science fiction sojourn in Strange Adventures #3 while the reboot of the Legion of Super-Heroes sees Superman's son Jon an intergalactic fugitive in #7.
I've also been tempted by the return of Superboy Prime one of comicdom's biggest bastards to Shazam and just might pick this story-line up in Shazam #13.
Meanwhile Superman calls on Doctor Fate as magic seems to be a problem surrounding his secret identities revelation to the world. Talking of magic and mentioning complete bastards, John Constantine: Hellblazer #7 is also out from DC Black Label.
Not to be forgotten are the latest Star Trek comics from IDW. The mystery deepens in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Too Long A Sacrifice #2 and the original crews adventures continue in Star Trek: Year Five which we are now told will last for 24 issues.
No images were available at the time of writing but IDW are also releasing volume two of the collected editions which is worth buying if you missed the series.
Dynamite continue to milk my pension with yet another must have title for this fanboy as the new Draculina (the first revival of an Atlas character since they purchased the rights) so The Sacred Six #1 is now on my list along with all the other Red Sonja and Vampirella titles. That would be all of hem!
Oh and a reprint of Vampirella #30 featuring the first appearance of Pantha is also available this month. I've never been able to either find or indeed afford an original copy so....
And not to be left out Archie Comics Sabrina: The Teenage Witch - Something Wicked #2 comes out in May.
Last but by far from least is the new Smash! Comics Special from Rebellion. This will also be in all good newsagents so make sure you get yours featuring the return of British comics characters like The Steel Claw from Valiant and The Spider from Lion!. Those were the days and they are coming back one hopes!
