Star Trek: Picard (Season 1)

The latest addition to the Star Trek Franchise is the solo adventures of one Captain , nay Admiral Picard set in his twilight years having retired to the family vineyard. A visit from a frightened woman who turns out to be Data's daughter sends Picard back intio space after failing to save her from Romulan assassins. She has a sister and the clock is ticking.

Although I read the comic book prequel to this series some time ago (available as a collected comic from IDW) only now have I finally been able to see the main series and frankly it was well worth the wait. Having been impressed with Star Trek: Discovery despite my misgivings about some seeming revisions of Trek history or mythology I was more than prepared for this time and galaxy spanning mystery.

The sacrifice of Data was one of the most moving moments of the Next Generations story lines and to discover the existence of not one but two "daughters" provides a background to the seemingly pointless revolt of androids on Mars and the colony's destruction the subsequent banning on the development of artificial life in the Federation and the presence of hardcore Romulan spies deep in Star Fleet and on Earth itself.

Picard gathers a crew with the obligatory traitor on board (which was obvious from the beginning) and picks up one well loved and missed character Seven of Nine now operating as a Ranger trying to keep the peace in parts of space abandoned by law & order.

The excellent script takes to an exiting finale that needs to be seen. I can't recommend this series enough, though have a tissue ready it will bring a tear to your eye. I will say no more.
