The Avengers #112 (Marvel/1973)
The Avengers #112 (Marvel)

The Lion God Lives suggests that there may be other "Pantheons" of gods around other than just the Norse and Greek ones. Indeed why should others not exist. Of course the pantheons are expanded in later stories but at this time the Marvel Universe is still fairly "small".
A "Black Panther" orientated issue sees T'challa kidnapped by a brainwashed crowd outside the Avengers Mansion. The Panther himself fall prey to the same spell as he heads off to Africa to confront the Panther's natural nemesis..the Lion.
Inevitably the two fight as indeed was the Lion God's intention but in victory the Avengers arrive to rescue T'Challa.
Th Lion God buggers off to wherever he comes from and vows to return and get vengeance. I have no idea whether this happens or not and frankly do not care much. This felt like a fill-in issue and isn't the best either of the creators have to offer.
For completists, especially as it apparently contains the first appearance of Mantis. Might pick up #114 looks a lot more interesting!
