Blockbuster #4 (Marvel UK/1981)

Marvel UK published a number of short-lived comics over the years it was in business. Blockbuster was one of them. I already have the first two issues and although it's full of "b" list characters it remains an interesting read.

There are three features which start with Iron Fist and in the story A Duel of Iron Iron Fist ends up confronting Iron Man whilst he searches for Colleen Wing who has been kidnapped by white slavers from some unknown country. Not sure Marvel would risk some of the dialogue these days but it is what it is and there is also another guest star in the form of Misty Knight,

The adventures of the Inhumans continue as they confront and fight Shatterstar once more. However that will not be their only concern as the team return to the Great Refuge to find there has been a coup. I always like this series and think it was a pity it was so short lived.

Finally we get another short excerpt of Omega the Unknown. This short series was actually fascinating and although it was cancelled before the comic reached a conclusion Marvel did finish the story in The Defenders. I have all the issues and keep meaning to re-read these one of these days. It's on my "bucket list" so to speak.

Blockbuster lasted just nine issues over 1981/1982.

  1. Great review Howie - I loved Blockbuster / Rampage / Savage Action back in the day....finally managed to locate all nine issues of this series plus the winter special. Is it weird that I prefer these Marvel UK reprints to the original US editions?

    1. I don't think it's weird at all. I like the UK reprints and absolutely prefer Tomb of Dracula in oversized glorious black & white. Wait. what? There's a summer special to look out for? I must track copy down!
