T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents 50th Anniversary Special (IDW)

Various (w) & (a)

T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents was originally published by Tower Comics back in the sixties and lasted twenty (giant sized) issue, though the last one was all-reprint. Back in the day I recall only ever buying one issue of this comic but did get to read quite a lot of T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents in the Alan Class black and white reprint series Uncanny Tales and Creepy Worlds here in the UK.

The story of a group of heroes operating under the United Nations a lot of fans have fond memories of such characters as Dynamo, Noman, Mentor, The Raven and Lightning.

Not to be be forgotten was the sexy villainess The Iron Maiden!

T.H.U.N.D.E.R. of course stands for: The Higher United Nations Defense Enforcement Reserves! Now you know!

There were several attempts to revive these heroes over the years. An short lived 2 issue series from JC comics (published by Archie) and a 5 issue series from Delux Comics which was ended  by a lawsuit and a further unauthorised appearance in The Justice Machine Annual!

Recent attempts to revive T.H.U.N.D.E.R have been equally unsuccessful. DC comics tried twice and subsequently lost the licence  which is now held by IDW who ran a 8 (thought it was only 6) issue mini-series which was more attuned to the Tower Comics originals but is now on hiatus.

Perhaps with the anniversary now upon us IDW will try again! I certainly hope so.
